EVP, U.S. Public Affairs

Kathryn Stack is the Executive Vice President for U.S. Public Affairs at WE Communications. She has almost 25 years of experience in communications, specializing in the development and implementation of strategic communications and public relations initiatives.

Kathryn manages agency teams that support Microsoft’s Sustainability, Fundamental Rights and Expand Opportunity work for the Microsoft account. This includes leading the teams that support Microsoft’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Chief Accessibility Officer and Chief Data Scientist for the AI for Good Lab and the Global Head of Microsoft Philanthropies. This work includes highlighting initiatives that focus on sustainability, human rights, AI skilling and job creation, fostering economic opportunity in communities, computer science and education programs, accessibility, universal broadband access, AI for Good programs, and responsible AI. She shepherded communications for the 2020 announcement that Microsoft would become carbon neutral by 2030 and establish a billion-dollar carbon investment fund; both were industry-leading sustainability initiatives that prompted other technology giants like Amazon and Google to develop their own comparable sustainability goals.

In her career, Kathryn has managed public and government affairs initiatives for Fortune 500 companies, including Microsoft, Royal Dutch Shell, Shell Foundation, The Coca-Cola Company, Comcast and Pfizer. She was the client lead for Microsoft’s public affairs communications work in Washington, D.C., and managed media outreach, social media execution, message development, public policy outreach, partnerships and event oversight for the company. She oversaw media engagement and partnerships for Microsoft around the 2016 political conventions, which included a partnership with POLITICO. In 2017, this program earned a Silver Anvil from the Public Relations Society of America for Excellence in Business Public Affairs.

She is a member of the Public Affairs Council and is a longtime supporter of NextStep, an internationally recognized nonprofit that makes life-changing rehab and fitness accessible and affordable to people living with paralysis. She also supports the environment and animal causes through Fauna & Flora International, Wild Earth Allies, the ASPCA, and the Humane Society and volunteers with Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown.

In her spare time, Kathryn can be found skiing in the mountains, enjoying some California pinot noir, spending time in the Virginia countryside with her family, and cooking for her almost three-year-old son, who is an adventurous eater.
