When Sam Mercer and Julie Noble co-founded Hopscotch in 2010, they had a vision: to be the best-in-class at delivering leading-edge social-impact campaigns that truly transform young people’s lives. It quickly became a reality when Hopscotch won its first client, The Co-operative, and delivered an outstanding sustainability campaign that engaged young people, families and communities across the UK.
Today, Sam continues to carry through that vision, driving the agency’s award-winning portfolio of global education and behavior change campaigns with a focus on social impact. She provides strategic counsel on several key public and private sector clients including the Met Office and LifeSkills, as Hopscotch moves into its next chapter as a WE Communications company.
For more than 35 years, Sam has worked in communications and PR. Her career began alongside Daniel Craig (then a budding actor) at the National Youth Theatre as a marketing and PR officer. Since that time, she’s held roles at Saatchi & Saatchi, Munro and Forster, the Department for Education (DfE), and the Central Office of Information (COI). Her career includes highlights that range from overseeing global sponsorships with the Olympics and the London Marathon and running her own PR consultancy to leading groundbreaking initiatives like the first-ever Government PR roster in 1997 and the inception of the Department for Education’s Business Development Unit. She’s worked with organizations and brands like the Army, Morgan Stanley, Cisco, Microsoft and BT, to name a few.
Outside work, Sam can be found at home with her two boys or on the Cornish coast with her two springer spaniels. She attends the occasional Pilates or barre sculpture class and indulges in opera and theatre performances.
